Toy collection, 17 December 1953. [Description from photo index.]. In 1953, more than 800 new and used toys were collected at JPL and donated to the Boys and Girls Aid Society of Pasadena, to be given to children who might not have received any other toys. The effort was led by nine members of the Toy Committee, who also repaired and refurbished toys, as needed. Almost 50 years later, the holiday toy collection is a continuing tradition at JPL. JET PROPELLED TOYS. 819 toys, donated by JPL employees, gladdened the hearts of children of the Boys and Girls Aid Society of Altadena this Christmas. Looking over the toys are members of the Toy Donation Committee, left to right: "Miggs" Powers, Clark Miner, Bob Topping, Harold McCall, Charles McCaul and Bernard Brown. One of the first people hired at GALCIT Project #1 in November 1941 was photographer George Emmerson (1913-1994), an emigrant from Newcastle, Great Britain. Audrey Voice and Mary J. Taylor as photographer's assistants joined Emmerson in 1943.
